Mátyás Rákosi (born March 14, 1892 as Mátyás Rosenfeld – February 5, 1971) was a Hungarian Stalinist dictator and the leader of Hungary from 1945 to 1956 through his post as General Secretary of the Hungarian Communist Party. Delt harshly with the 1956 Hungarian uprising.
