Denis Sassou-Nguesso; b. November 23, 1943 in Edou) - politician of the Congo, military, president in 1979-1992 and again from 1997 [1].

During a one-party system, he was at the head of the Congolese Labor Party for 12 years (PCT). As a result of the introduction of political pluralism in 1990, which led to the National Conference in 1991, he lost executive powers, then failed in the first democratic elections in 1992. As a result of the 1997 civil war, he took power by overthrowing democratic President Pascal Lissouba. He was reelected in the presidential elections of 2002 and 2009, which were characterized by low interest of the opposition. Sassou-Nguesso is also at the head of the PCT Central Committee
